Dear Families,

We had a wonderful return to learning at Deer Run School! We enjoyed a fantastic school assembly this week. We were excited to bring back our weekly student shoutouts, celebrating students for their kindness, effort, and leadership. In addition, our Grade 6 students impressed us all with their Reader’s Theatre performances. Their confidence, expression, and teamwork were great to see.

As the weather changes, we would like to remind families to ensure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor learning and recess. We go outside daily, so warm layers, jackets, and proper footwear are essential to help students stay comfortable and ready to learn. While the weather looks favorable this week, the mornings are still chilly.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership,

Shawna, Krista and The Deer Run Team

Grade 5 & 6 Outdoor School Meeting

You are reminded that there is a MANDATORY parent/guardian meeting on Wednesday January 14, 2026, at 5:15.  All students who will be attending must have a parent/guardian at this meeting.  If you cannot be there, please reach out to your child’s teacher.  Students are welcome to attend with their parent/guardian.

School Council News

You are invited to attend our School Council Meeting on January 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

Why attend a School Council meeting?

  • Have a Voice & a Vote: Share your perspective on important matters such as school budgets, safety, curriculum support, and school activities that directly impact your child’s learning.
  • Build Community: Connect with families, staff, and community members to help create a supportive and vibrant school environment.
  • Stay Informed: Be among the first to hear about school news, decisions, and upcoming events.
  • Represent Your Community: Help ensure School Council reflects the diversity of our school by bringing valuable family and cultural perspectives to discussions.
  • Model Involvement: Show your children the importance of community participation and making a positive difference.

Dogs on School Property

This is a reminder that CBE Administrative Regulation AR6004 - Animals in Schools restricts animals on school property. Dogs are not permitted on school grounds except where expressly approved under AR6004 (e.g., service animals or authorized educational purposes).

Additionally, the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw prohibits dogs on school property, including playgrounds and fields.

Safety Reminders

  • Walk carefully! With fluctuating temperatures, there are many icy patches, especially in the morning.
  • Please walk students around the staff parking lot, not through it.
  • Do not jaywalk, especially when School Safety Patrols are monitoring the two crosswalks. Please choose and model safety over convenience.
  • Late arrivals: If students arrive late and the back doors are closed, they must enter the school through the front doors.
