Dear Families,
With the recent freeze–thaw cycles, our sidewalks, parking lots, and nearby roads can become icy and slippery. We ask families, students, and staff to take extra care when walking or driving to and from school. Wearing proper winter footwear, allowing extra travel time, and watching your step—especially in shaded areas—can help prevent slips and falls.
Congratulations to Ms. Michaud and her Grade 6 class on a wonderful week of learning at Contemporary Calgary. The students were excellent representatives of Deer Run School as they explored downtown Calgary and experienced the art in our city.
Mr. Kyler’s class is up next and will be spending this week downtown. Please ensure students arrive on time so they do not miss the bus.

Kindergarten Registration for September 2026
Kindergarten registration opened on January 12, 2026. Registration is not first come, first served. All students living in Deer Run, Deer Ridge, and Deer River Estates are guaranteed a spot at Deer Run School.
Families may indicate a preference for AM or PM placement; however, this does not guarantee placement. Class placement decisions will be made in late May or early June.
Lunchroom Supervision Fees
The CBE provides students with the option to stay at school for lunch. Lunch supervision is offered to students in Grades 1–6 for an annual fee. Fee waivers must be applied for each school year.
Dodgeball Intramural
The inaugural season of the Deer Run Dodgeball League launches this February! Teams will face off during lunchtime in a fun-first, sportsmanship-focused competition—an exciting way to push through the last of the winter cold.
Teams of five can sign up until January 23. Students should see Mr. Kyler if they need assistance.
Deer Run Talent Show
The Deer Run School Talent Show will take place on February 2 and 3 during lunch (12:00–12:35) and will feature performances from many talented members of our school community.
Auditions will take place at lunch over the next couple of weeks. Students who signed up will showcase their talents for Mr. Baker to ensure they are ready to perform.
Deer Run Spring Concert
Save the date! The Deer Run School Spring Concert will take place on March 12, 2026, with performances at 1:30 PM and 6:30 PM. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
