This Week at Deer Run – May 31, 2024
Bike Repair Day
We would like to pass along a massive thank you to the Rotary Club of Calgary for visiting Deer Run on Wednesday. Many volunteers worked hard ALL DAY to spruce up student bikes for the summer! We can’t thank these amazing people enough for working so hard for our students. There were so many smiles when students got to ride their “new and improved” bikes!
Embracing Differences
Our theme for our weekly assembly today at Deer Run was about embracing differences and being unique. As part of this, we had a special presentation from Emmitt and his teacher Mrs. Sponton! Emmitt is a student at our school who has Speech Apraxia. People with Apraxia of Speech have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say but have difficulty moving the lips, jaw, and tongue the correct way to make sounds. Mrs. Sponton and Emmitt shared ways that we can support him and other people with Apraxia of Speech. They also shared how Emmitt raised $425 at the first ever Calgary Speech Apraxia walk! Thank you so much to Emmitt for being so awesome!
