This Week at Deer Run – May 10, 2024
Hoop Dancing Performance
We had a very special presentation today at Deer Run! We were honoured to welcome Dallas Arcand (www.dallasarcand.com), a world champion hoop dancer, to our school.
“Dallas Arcand is a multi‐talented artist who won the world spotlight with his astonishing Hoop Dancing at the 2010 Olympic Games opening ceremonies. Dallas is a three‐time World Champion Hoop Dancer from the Alexander (Kipohtakaw) Plains Cree Nation near Edmonton, Alberta. He is best known as a champion Hoop Dancer, a motivational speaker, storyteller, and musician. Dallas, whose Aboriginal name is ‘Dancing Buffalo Man’ (Nimihto Paskwa Mostôs Napew), for many years had no idea that dancing would become a major influence in his life. Dallas has been a World Class Hoop and Indigenous Dancer for over two decades. His dancing ranges from traditional to contemporary indigenous styles including; Fancy, Grass, Jigging, Break, and Hoop Dancing.”
Dallas and his daughter, Meadow performed their cultural dances and shared many teachings and stories. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed this performance. Thank you so much to School Council for supporting this opportunity!
Jump Rope for Heart
Our school is excited to participate in Jump Rope for Heart this year! Students will discover fun ways to get active, practice healthy habits and learn about helping others while raising money to beat heart disease and stroke.
Jump Rope 4 Heart will run at Deer Run School throughout May, with many events taking place.
Our fundraising goal is $500.
