This Week at Deer Run Oct. 13 | Lunch Program, School Council Meeting, Grade 4 Field Trip

Lunch Program

All parents and guardians should register for our lunch program through their MyCBE account if their student is eating lunch at school. When sending lunches to school with students, please keep in mind that we don’t provide microwaves, hot water, or cutlery.

Lunch supervision services provide participating students with supervision while they are eating and during the lunch period activities. Families of students staying at school during the lunch period are required to pay the annual Lunch Supervision Fee. Revenue from these fees is used by schools to hire lunchroom supervisors. Income tax receipts are issued for Lunch Supervision Fee: receipts may be included as child care expenses for income tax purposes.

School Council Meeting

This past Wednesday night, we had our second School Council meeting of the school year. If you are interested in reading the minutes, they can be found here. As always, we thank all of our School Council parents for their time and continued support of our students.

Grade 4 Field Trip

At the Shepard Landfill, the grade 4s saw the massive amount of waste Calgarians create in just a few months. They also saw the incredible amount of composting that gets moved around each day and turned into fantastic fertilizer for community gardens and available free to ANY Calgarian each May. In the Composting Facility they were secret agents discovering that REDUCING what we use is the first and best for the environment, followed by REUSING everything we can, and only after all of that do we RECYCLE what we can no longer use. On the bus tour, they “made” the layers of a landfill and saw all the electronics that will be taken apart for the precious metals inside to be used again.
