Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year at Deer Run School

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at Deer Run School.  Whether you are a returning family or new to the Deer Run community, we look forward to having you.  If your circumstances have changed over the summer and your child(ren) will not be attending Deer Run School, please let us know as soon as possible by email deerrun@cbe.ab.ca.   

The first day of classes for students is Thursday, August 31, 2023. This will be a full day of classes for Grades 1-6 and staggered entry for all Kindergarten students. 

Back to School Information

School Supplies - Basic school supplies for all students will be supplied (pencils, notebooks, scissors, glue, etc.). Student supplies are purchased by the school and provided as part of your school fees. All students will have access to shared supplies in each classroom which are grade appropriate.

Items you will need to send with your child: 

  • A backpack large enough to hold a large library book 
  • Indoor running shoes (these will stay at school) NO CROCS or FLIP FLOPS
  • Water bottle  
  • Lunch bag/snack bag 

Please label everything you send to school - First and Last name are important so we can ensure clothing is returned to your child.

School Fees, Communication, Lunchroom, Transportation

  • Please Check / Create your MyCBE PowerSchool account. All parents must have a MyCBE PowerSchool account to access and pay fees, book school conferences, see report cards, etc. When signing up for emails please note that we send weekly updates from classrooms and the school. If you are not registered for commercial email, you will not receive any information that involves financial transactions (fun lunch, fundraising, school events).
    • This is also where you will register for Lunchroom 
    • Fees will be posted by the beginning of October 2023
    • Please use the above link to register for Transportation
  • All fees are annual fees with the option to pay monthly through your MyCBE account.

Deer Run School - 2023-24 Calendar 

  • The 2023-24 calendar has now been published on the Deer Run school website Calendar page. It contains an overview of all the key dates for the upcoming school year. It also has our school bell times (no changes), lunch times and a breakdown of when alternating Friday Kindergarten groups will be attending school. Information on specific events such as Healthy Hunger, assemblies and field trips will be communicated to families as they are scheduled throughout the year. 

Office Open

  • Our office will open again on Monday, August 28 at 9:00AM.

Homeroom Teachers and Class Assignments 

Families will receive notification of their child’s homeroom teacher by August 29, 2023, via school messenger email. Much consideration and time goes into making class lists, therefore we will NOT be able to accommodate class changes.  This information will be accompanied by the first day of school plans. All staff will be outside on the first day for supervision and will be there to help direct you and your child.  Please plan to say goodbye to your child outside the school as parents will not be permitted to accompany children into the school. 

Sneak-a- Peek

We will be having a quick meet and greet for students on August 30, 2023 at 12:30PM – 1:30PM.  This is optional and all children need to be accompanied by an adult. This time period is intended to be a quick introduction to their new teacher and to see their new classroom space, helping to ease first day jitters.

Morning Entry

Flexible entry begins when the bell rings at 8:10AM. All students are to be seated for learning to begin at 8:18AM.  Anyone arriving after 8:18AM will need to come through the main office.

Parking is available in the Deer Run Community Centre lot. Drop off and pick up, is NOT permitted in the Staff Parking Lot or in front of the school, as this is our bus zone. 

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students will begin their school year using a staggered entry for Thursday August 31, 2023 and Friday September 1, 2023. This allows students to be grouped in smaller numbers and to become comfortable and familiar with their new school, the Kindergarten teachers, and their daily routines.

  • AM student last name beginning with A – L attend 8:30AM – 9:30AM  
  • AM student last name beginning with M– Z attend 10:00AM – 11:00AM
  • PM student last name beginning with A – H attend 12:45PM -1:45PM  
  • PM student last name beginning with I– Z attend 2:00PM – 3:00PM

Friday September 1, 2023             

  • AM student last name beginning with A – L attend 8:18AM – 9:18AM  
  • AM student last name beginning with M– Z attend 9:22AM – 10:22AM
  • PM student last name beginning with A – H attend 10:26AM – 11:26AM  
  • PM student last name beginning with I– Z attend 11:30AM – 12:30PM

Tuesday, September 5

  • Regular classes begin

Bussing/Transportation

Registration for transportation can be found in your MyCBE account.  If you do not see the transportation, it means that you are not bus eligible.  Children who are eligible but NOT registered, will not be able to access the bus until registration has been processed by the transportation department.
